Overheating is a threat to your vehicle that can damage your engine and lead to costly repairs. However, regular maintenance is crucial to prevent this common breakdown. For this reason John Brown AMSOIL has prepared the following post containing useful maintenance tips to prevent this problem

How to Avoid an Overheated Car

Check the Coolant Levels

Low coolant levels or leaks account for some of the most common causes for engine overheating. Make sure to refill your coolant tank if needed; remember that you should use a 50/50 ratio water and coolant mix.

Inspect the Radiator

You should also take a few minutes to inspect the radiator and pinpoint any damages. It's recommended that you drain your radiator every 40,000 and 60,000 miles to avoid blockages that keep the coolant from flowing properly.

How to Deal with an Overheated Car

If you notice that the temperature gauge starts to rise, make sure to turn off the air conditioning immediately and activate the heater. Try to pull over and look for the problem, just remember that you should never remove the radiator cap while the engine is still hot, as it can lead to burns and scaldings. These are just some ideas that will help you prevent this problem. Keep in mind that engine overheating is one of the leading causes of car breakdowns, however there are other areas that require your attention, so be sure to read our guide on this topic.
